The lives actors lead are horrifyingly amazing! Famous people can't even walk down the street without a disguise or else be goggled at.
While some live on the fame, it is no excuse to act like you can know or ask anything about the person in question.
Look here. I am ashamed and embarassed for all the people in the audiance and on stage. What gives us the right to know every tiny little detail of these people's lives?! Then again, he could've just disinclined the invitation to the show.
Sci-Fi breeds a special kind of obsession. An example of this is Trekies and Star Wars Freaks. All Sci-fi has this. SciFi is about immersing yourself into the fantasy, and immerse we do. This obsession leads to not just knowing everything about the show, but knowing everything about the actors /production /design details/ plot details/ thrown away script suggestions/ etc.
If I was to act, it wouldn't be in one of the big brand sci-fi series. Maybe not any sci-fi production, to be safe. I am shy at heart, and could not deal with the constant attention that these actors gain, not for their acting skills (though it helps), but for the fact that they play a character that people obsessively love/hate.
I would not want reporters sticking mics in my face at wedding and funerals. I would not want people comming up to me to ask questions about my sex life. And I definately would not want strange people calling me all hours of the day to ask personal questons!
All actors and famous people deal with this in one degree or another, but it is in my opinion that sci-fi tends to breed people that think it's not only socially acceptable, but necessary to do so!
I guess, in the end, people want to know how other people live their lives to see how their own life measures up.
